From more than a hundred choices we present what we think are the best six values. These represent great value for various reasons. What we think are the best from $4.25 to $139. The least expensive fountain pen, the Pilot Varsity is so cheap it’s laughable. It’s also disposable. Our most expensive value is the Lamy 2000 for its lightweight fiber body combined with a very light-touch nib. The Lamy Safari and Pelikan Future both are cheap, lightweight and great casual writers. The Cross Century II Paisley injects seasonal fashion combined with a technical superiority from Cross. The Duofold, while rather pricey, represents the finest value in an ‘executive level’ writer. Ballpoints, being usually the least expensive writing mode in each range provide extreme value. The Sonnet from Parker is at the other end of the spectrum delivering incomparable value at the bottom of the ‘executive’ range.
