A MAN AND A PEN ON A MISSION

The story of the pen that landed on the moon really begins at Gimbels Department store where the ballpoint pen was introduced by Milton Reynolds. Reynolds hired inventor Paul Fisher to make improvements on the pen when it failed to perform to consumer's expectations. Thereafter, Paul Fisher struck out on his own and founded the Fisher Pen Company in Chicago in 1948.

You might say the ballpoint really took off after that. A proponent of the scientific method, Fisher introduced his Chrome Bullet Pen in 1948. His innovative thinking led to the development of the Space Pen in the 1960's. With its pressurized ink cartridge, it could write upside down, under water, through grease and in the zero-gravity vacuum of outer space. Since its introduction, the Space Pen has been on board every American and Russian space mission.

Paul Fisher continues to push the envelope on pen design. His latest invention is the Millennium Pen. A pen with super-concentrated ink, guaranteed to write for an entire lifetime. Where pens are concerned, there's always something up with Fisher.
