A Lacquered Jewel
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has added another rich jewel to its collection of writing instruments. The Sealing Wax Collection was inspired by 18th-Century master goldsmith Georges-Antoine Croze's exquisite etui, used to hold sealing wax tools. Translucent blue enamel was decorated with a gold scale pattern bordered by gold foliage in relief. This is a beautiful piece to simply admire as well as a fine writing instrument. A strikingly high quality blue lacquered and brass-hinged presentation box is included.
